Join our informal heritage embroidery group to make friends and
learn some exciting new 'old' skills inspired by historic
needlework and the Maison Dieu. These sessions are run by
volunteers from the Maison Dieu ambassadors and the Friends of the
Maison Dieu, who class themselves as enthusiasts not experts they
are keen to share their knowledge and experience. They welcome
input and suggestions.
Participants are always welcome to bring stitching work of any kind they have already started no matter the style, or spend time devising a new project.
Sunday 25th January - Heritage stitching: Sashiko
What on earth has Japanese stitching got to do with the Maison Dieu?
This session will offer a brief introduction to “why Sashiko”, and how it comes about.
Some materials will be available for participants to try out Sashiko mending or stitching. Sashiko IS a mending stitch and has come to be completely associated as such in Occidental eyes. But it is much more than that, come along to find out why, and try it yourself.
Or, indeed, bring some mending.
Refreshments included. £5. Cash only, pay on the day.
All funds go towards the Friends of the Maison Dieu.
