A special free tourism event, offering local people involved in welcoming visitors to White Cliffs Country, the opportunity to find out more about the exciting offer our district provides and to pick up some top tips on engaging with visitors from the UK or abroad.
The keynote speaker is Fran Downton, Chief Executive of Tourism South East.
The day includes presentations by industry experts, on who our visitors are, the kind of experiences they’re looking for and how best to support their needs. It also highlights the support available to visitors and tourism providers, including the important role of Dover’s Visitor Information Centre, as well as sharing advice on how to successfully market your business.
We’re keen to showcase new and exciting visitor experiences in White Cliffs Country… from sea kayaking expeditions beside the White Cliffs, to vineyard wine tastings and spooky family-friendly tours of Dover’s Victorian Gaol. So, if you’ve a new activity or visitor offer you’d like to shout about, just let us know and we’d be delighted to give you a few minutes to tell us all about it.
Welcome to Europe’s Gateway is open to anyone involved in tourism in the Dover district - from hoteliers and B&B owners, to bus and taxi drivers, and staff and volunteers at our many visitor attractions and heritage sites.
So, whether you’re welcoming visitors aboard the medieval cog at Sandwich’s historic quay, driving them to the Timeball Tower in Deal, or guiding them around the ramparts of Dover Castle, with its fabulous cross-Channel views, we’d be delighted for you to take part.
Pick the date and time that works for you, either Monday 16th Nov 9.30 - 3.00pm, or Wednesday 18th Nov 5 - 9pm.
Lunch provided on Monday 16th.
Light snacks provided on Wed 18th.
Free tickets for tourism partners.
For those attending on Monday 16th Nov you are also invited to explore the Maison Dieu and other outstanding heritage sites nearby, including the Roman Painted House, on special, behind-the-scenes guided tours.
This event has been made possible with the support of a wide range of tourism partners including the Maison Dieu, Tourism South East, White Cliffs Country and The Port of Dover.
Additional free Welcome Host Gold and Welcoming All Customers training courses run by Tourism South East, for Dover district tourism partners will be available in late November and early December.
This tourism event and the free training for Dover district tourism partners, forms part of the Reawakening the Maison Dieu activity plan, generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
